Lake Washington earns wins over Bellevue, Sammamish in preparation for home stretch

Last week the Lake Washington volleyball team snatched up their first two victories in several seasons, beating Bellevue in three games (25-18, 25-21, 25-23) and Sammamish in four (25-14, 25-22, 19-25, 25-10).

Lake Washington dominated in the first game, winning 25 to 18, with sophomore Maddie Lind, and senior Emina Dodic leading the way with 5 point serve runs each. The Kangs took game two in a less decisive battle, winning 25 to 21. Junior Jess Lund led the team with three kills, and a six point serving streak. Senior Shelby Hanson also contributed with a 5 point serving run. The third game was an exciting match up, and the Kangs came out victorious in a 25 to 23 win. In game three, senior Emina Dodic put of four of her seven kills for the night.

The difference of the game, says the team, is passing. Coach Claire Lazar said that, “winning the serve pass battle is the biggest obstacle, and when the girls win that battle, they set up an imposing offense.”

On Monday evening, the Kangs hosted Sammamish, winning the match in four games. Their second win in a week, the Lake Washington team won two games, before dropping the third. They rallied to take the fourth, and the overall win.

Dana Hasert had nine kills, five blocks and six assists during the games, while teammate Katy Harding had four assists.

The Kangs will travel Monday to play Mercer Island in another conference match up.
