The Lake Washington and Juanita cross country teams have gotten off to a solid start this season, with both schools participating in various meetings around the Puget Sound.

Last week, the Kangs traveled to Kelsey Creek Park in Bellevue for a meet against Mercer Island and Bellevue. Both the boys and girls teams finished third, with the girls netting 71 points, and the boys 85.

In the girls race Olivia Whiby finished seventh overall in 22:05, while Mackenzie Toher was 13th at 22:42 and teammate Audrey Nordness was right behind her in 14th place at 22:43.

On the boys side, in the 5,000-meter race, senior Josh Deshazer had the team’s top finish in 19:01, while Kenny Drabble was 22nd in 19:02.

On Wednesday, Sept. 22 the Juanita Rebels team hosted Liberty.

Molly Granger finished ninth overall for the girls team, in 23:32, and junior Shayna Van Den Boomen was 10th in 23:53, while Rachel Blanch took 15th in 24:43 while Kathryn Wutcher took 16th with the same time as Blanch.

For the Rebel boys Santos Zaid took second place just eight seconds behind the winner at 17:38. Caleb Ferrell was fourth overall in 17:56 and James Bauman took fifth at 18:17.
