Liberty narrowly passes Juanita for a win | Prep tennis

The Liberty High School boys tennis team narrowly beat Juanita last week, in a 4-3 conference win.

In the singles matches Juanita’s Quinn Simpson beat Garrett Timm 7-5, 7-6 (7-4 tiebreaker) for the Rebels lone singles win. Bill Narita lost to Thomas Lowes 06-, 3-6, while Austin Chen lost to Sho Kato 0-6, 2-6. Alex Wallin lost to Michael Payant 4-6, 3-6 in the last singles game of the day.

On the doubles side Juanita fared better, with two of it’s teams beating the Patriots.

Hugo Romero-True Vue beat Dylan Clark-Ben Pinsky 6-0, 6-0, while Vong Chang-Alex Love beat Ken Kato-Brandon Yan 6-3, 6-3. The Patriot’s Greg Murashige-Andrew Munoz combination beat out Michael Stanus-Ghib-Sean Thilaphahn 6-4, 4-6 and 1-6.

Mercer Island sweeps Lake Washington

During a conference match against powerhouse Mercer Island, the Kang boys tennis team fell 7-0.

The Islanders starting the afternoon off with wins by Jordan Smith, beating Arash Hafizi 6-1, 6-2, while Andrew Smith beat Nik Lakie 6-1, 6-3. Zack Elliot beat Matt Lim 6-1, 6-0 and Quinn Snell beat Satoshi Matsuuro 6-4, 6-3.

In doubles, Glen Kelton-Erik Snyder beat Jordan Cox-Jake Nash 6-0, 6-0m Craig Deininger-Derek Newkoff beat CJ Donahow-Ryan L and David Peck-Jeremy Chow beat Hiroki Boyle-Ian B 6-0, 6-0.

Lake Washington turned around and beat Mount Si, sweeping the Wildcats in all matches.

The 7-0 trounce earned wins for Hafizi (6-1, 6-2), Lim (6-0, 6-3), Matsuura (6-0, 6-0), Donahow (6-0, 6-3) in singles matches. On the doubles side, Jordan Cox-Jake Nash won 6-2, 6-4, Ryan Lustgarten-Ian Backstrom won 6-0, 6-4 and Hiroki Boyle-Brian Chinn won 7-5, 6-3.
