Treddenbarger takes state title with all pins, less than three minutes on the mat

Juanita High School wrestler Cody Treddenbarger gave new meaning to domination Friday and Saturday. In a tournament where most wrestlers are lucky to get one or two pins, Treddenbarger won the state wrestling meet, the Mat Classic, with all pins to take the state championship in the heavy weight division.

Treddenbarger’s feat was made even more impressive by the fact that each of his opponents went down in the first round.

The championship meet was so fast that many people may have missed it at just 46-seconds long, as Treddenbarger defeated Jose Barajas of Sunnyside.

But the Juanita wrestler qualified for the finals with an even faster pin of just 27 seconds, as he forced Max Proudfit of Union High School to his back. Proudfit got a good look at the Tacoma Dome roof as the referee slapped the mat.

It took Treddenbarger a little more time for the pin during the quarter finals on Friday. The Rebel faced off against Joseph Watson of Renton. Following the match, Watson may have had the glare of the Tacoma Dome’s lights stuck in his vision longer than the match took to complete. Treddenbarger took down his opponent in just one-minute, 17 seconds, as the referees slam of the mat rang out.

Treddenbarger began the tournament with a 22 second pin of Josh Ingebretson of Hudson’s Bay.

The junior’s performance was so impressive that it almost single-handedly catapulted Juanita High School to 21st place in state as a team.

The performance is one of the most dominating in state history and follows up league and district titles that were all won via pin fall.

Teammates

Michael Pryzstupa lost to Brandon Yeik of Olympia, 19-2, during the first round of competition but recovered to earn a state tournament win against Even Paet of Everett, 12-6. Pryzstupa would lose his next match to finish off his state tournament experience for 2010.

Juanita’s Danny Baba (119 pounds) and Logan Mccallum (171) both wrestled two matches but did not qualify for the second day of competition.
