Lake Washington wrestling places two athletes in top eight at state

The Lake Washington High School wrestling team sent six athletes to state at the Tacoma Dome and came home with two athletes in the top eight.

Ullery

Dylan Ullery finished sixth in state in the 140-pound weight class Saturday. Ullery began the tournament with a win against Colton Elliot of Oak Harbor, 19-5 on Friday. The second round also went Ullery’s way, as he defeated Andrew Smith of Kent Meridian 20-18, in one of the highest scoring matches of the weekend. But Ullery would lose to Nico Moreno of Moses Lake High School in a major decision, 9-1. Ullery would also lose to Scott Davis of Ferris 9-7 in a heart breaking overtime competition. Ullery’s final match would be a loss to Brian Donaldson of Marysville-Piulchuck 9-7.

Chrysanthou

Kang Zach Chrysanthou placed eighth at the state tournament in the 145-pound weight class. Chrysanthou began his run at state with a win against Austin Wagner of Davis High School, 3-0. He went on to beat Kendrick Spiller of Heritage High School with a pin during the second round (4:24). But the Chrysanthou would lose his next three matches by decision.

Yaroslov Petrechko earned a state tournament victory during the first round of the consolation bracket, by pinning Zack Perez of Edmonds-Woodway in 3:15. Petrechko’s first-round and consolation bracket second-round losses would sink him.

Lake Washington wrestlers Joel Navas (119 pounds), Inrahim Khifeh (189) and Jack Michels (heavy weight) would both wrestle two matches but not qualify for the second day of competition.
