Lake Washington High School football head coach Ray Roberts stepped down last week after two seasons with the Kangs.

Roberts said via his Twitter account last Tuesday, “Yesterday I resigned from coaching at LW. I enjoyed my time there and truly love the kids I coached. I wish them nothing but the best.”

According to Lake Washington Athletic Director George Crowder, Roberts resigned due to personal reasons, feeling he couldn’t devote the necessary time to the program to make it a success. Crowder said Troy Hennum, an assistant coach, stepped into the interim head coaching position for the spring, but that the school is still looking for a permanent head coach.

“Troy Hennum has done a great job. We have a great group of assistant coaches who have kept the kids motivated,” said Crowder. “All the assistant coaches have stepped up.”

He added that it’s very important to the school administration that they find a coach who can be in the building, something the strongest programs in the league have in common. He said they hope to have an announcement in the next several weeks about a replacement.

Under Roberts the Kangs had two 1-8 seasons.
