A suspected car thief led Kirkland police officers on a short chase Friday in Kirkland. Police attempted to stop the reported stolen vehicle around noon in the 14300 block of Juanita-Woodinville Way.

The lone male driver of the vehicle refused to stop for officers and a short pursuit ensued. The deputies from the King County Sheriff’s Office, and its helicopter Guardian 1, responded to assist.

The suspect vehicle side-swiped a vehicle while passing it on 11800 block of Juanita Drive NE. As a means to stop the driver, King County Sheriff’s deputies deployed spike strips on the roadway. The vehicle did not stop and continued north to the 6800 block of Bothell Way in unincorporated King County, where it crashed into two vehicles stopped at the intersection Northeast 68th and Bothell Way.

The suspect driver fled on foot and was taken into custody a short time later with minor injuries caused by the collision. Kirkland police said the man is a violent offender with multiple warrants for his arrest. No citizens or officers were hurt during the incident.
