The Juanita High School Concert Choir and Symphonic Band recently returned from their 2010 Spring Tour with five trophies. The group won Best Overall high school concert band; Best Overall high school choir; first place in High School Concert Band, 1AA; first place in High School Mixed Choir, 1AA; and the Esprit de Corps Award.

The students, led by choir Director Lehua Pischke and band Director Mariko Lane, began the tour May 14-15 with rehearsals with band and choir directors at Central Washington University. They also performed in “Music in the Parks” festival in Idaho, where students were recognized with the five awards.

Lane said, “We are most proud of the Esprit de Corps award. From the second the kids stepped off the buses, the festival staff and student helpers were watching for overall attitude, behavior, and support of other schools … so it is a true testament to the character and spirit of our student musicians.”

JHS students ended their trip at Silverwood Theme Park.
