LW softball set for state, Juanita needs one more win to advance

Lake Washington’s softball team has qualified for the 3A state tournament while Juanita is one step away from the promised land.

LW made state with its 8-6 win over Ballard on Wednesday. In another 3A SeaKing District game last night, Holy Names Academy defeated the Kangs, 2-0. Olivia Smallman had two hits for LW.

LW will play Bainbridge at 5 p.m. tonight in the third-/fourth-place game at the Southwest Athletic Complex (SAC) in Seattle.

For Juanita, the Rebels came out on the losing end, 8-6, against Garfield last night.

In the roller-coaster-like game, Juanita led 5-3 after three innings and Garfield tied it up 5-5 in the sixth. From there, Garfield scored three runs in the top of the seventh and Juanita tallied once in the bottom of the inning.

For Juanita, Kristina Warford had two hits and Sasha Mitchell had two hits and two RBIs.

The Rebels will play Kamiakan at 2 p.m. Saturday in a winner-to-state/loser-out game at SAC.
