Crews continue to work on Park Lane, could open by mid March

King County could re-open Park Lane near the transit station in downtown Kirkland by the middle of March—at the latest according to King County spokesperson Heidi Sowell.

King County could re-open Park Lane near the transit station in downtown Kirkland by the middle of March at the latest, according to King County spokesperson Heidi Sowell.

The new asphalt surface, which crews laid on top of the road’s previously existing base, will provide two-way transportation until the end of 2014—at the earliest. Work crews stripped the road on Feb. 26.

Starting next winter, the city of Kirkland will be transforming both blocks of Park Lane into a plaza-style street, with the walking surfaces and the drive surfaces all on one level.

Rather than using curbs and sidewalks, the street’s design will capitalize on bollards, trees and surface textures to separate drivers from walkers.
