The visions for the future of the Cross Kirkland Corridor and Kirkland’s parks, recreation and open spaces are coming into focus.

The Cross Kirkland Corridor Master Plan includes goals and visions for the corridor and gives guidance on intersection treatments, trail location, trail width and locations where pedestrian, bicycle and other connections should be developed.

The Parks, Recreation & Open Space Plan reflects a vision for how Kirkland’s parks and recreation system will conserve and protect natural resources, improve health and wellness of citizens, and help Kirkland be an even more livable and sustainable community. Both plans will be featured at a Community Forum to be held between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 27, at the Peter Kirk Community Center, 352 Kirkland Avenue.

Two one hour presentations will be held on the CKC Master Plan beginning at 5 p.m. and at 6 p.m. and will include a 30 minute question and answer session. Comments are wanted on concepts and alternatives contained in the preliminary plans.

The Berger Partnership, the city’s consultant developing the Master Plan, will address trail profiles, trailheads, restrooms, access points, parking and lighting and will answer general questions about the Master Plan. The Master Plan is anticipated to be adopted in June 2014.

The Parks and Community Services Department seeks feedback on proposed updates to the open space plan. The draft updates recommend priorities for park improvements, neighborhood parks, park facilities, and recreation programming and citizen input is wanted on the recommendations. The open space plan is anticipated to be adopted in June 2014.

Information will also be available on the Cross Kirkland Corridor Interim Trail construction, Comprehensive Plan Update and the Juanita Aquatic Center Replacement Partnership Project.
