Kirkland thrift shop seeks to donate to non-profits

Eastside Community Aid Thrift Shop in Kirkland donated $132,730 to Eastside community non-profits through 21 grants and six community college scholarships during 2016. Shop organizers are looking to provide grant funds to additional 501 3C organizations on the Eastside, especially small groups needing a little help.

The requirements and grant application can be found on their website www.ecathriftshop.org. Grant applications are reviewed monthly.

Eastside Community Aid Thrift Shop was founded in 1981 and has given donated more than $1.6 million in cash and over a million dollars’ worth of donations.

The following organizations were awarded money in 2016: Assistance League of the Eastside’s Operations School Bell program $8,000; HERO House $5,000; Hopelink $5,000; Eastside Legal Assistance program $5,000; Friends of Youth $5,000; Farms for Life $8,000; Time Bank $5,000; King County Sexual Assault Resource Center $8,000; Lake Washington Institute of Technology (three scholarships) $6,000; Attain Housing $8,000; Cascadia Community College Foundation (three scholarships) $6,000; Raven Rock Ranch $5,000; National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) $3,000; Lifewire $8,000; Sibling House $8,000; Lil Bit Therapeutic Riders $5,000; Cancer Pathways (Gilda’s Club) $5,000; Sophia Way clients $5,890; and Care Day $840.

Clean, resalable donations can be dropped off at the shop during business hours Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday hours have been extended to 6 p.m. Volunteers are always needed.

ECA located at 12451 116th Ave. NE in Kirkland, is an all-volunteer run thrift shop.
