Kirkland college to offer new courses multimedia design and production

The Lake Washington Institute of Technology (LWTech) in Kirkland has introduced a series of new courses to its Multimedia Design and Production (MMDP) program: The User-Centered Design certificate program and Smartphone Filmmaking and Smartphone Editing.

“These new courses in our School of Design and Applied Arts are affordable, and students who successfully complete the User-Centered Design program will receive an academic certificate,” said Dr. Amy Morrison Goings, president of Lake Washington Institute of Technology. “We are thrilled to be providing new programs that are created in direct response to industry and community need.”

The User-Centered Design certificate program at LWTech is one of only three programs like this in Western Washington. Unlike the UX certificate programs at other local institutions, LWTech’s program does not require a bachelor’s degree to enroll and will lead to an academic certificate upon course completion rather than a continuing education certificate.

The Smartphone Filmmaking and Smartphone Editing courses equip students with essential video cinematography skills, while guiding them through the complete filmmaking process, from initial concept to finished film.

Courses are designed for entrepreneurs, web designers, or anyone who wants to create promotional, instructional, crowdfunding, social media, citizen journalism, narrative, or documentary videos without the need for expensive equipment. Current generation smartphones have put the power of professional video production.

All three programs will be available through a hybrid model; online and in-class. The on-campus portion of the classes are in the evening to accommodate working professionals who want to enhance their skills.
