The Kangs easily led at the end of the first quarter with a 19-10 score, but Mercer Island closed the gap slightly in the second, hitting 15 points, while holding the Kangs to 13. The score was 32-25.

In the second half, Lake Washington score 29 points to the Islanders 26. Peyton Wozeniak had the game high with 20 points for the Kangs, followed by 17 from Hunter Hopkins and 13 from Cassie Lively. Whitney Dunlap added eight points, with Sara Wilson posting two and Madison Shepard adding one.

For the Islanders, Savanna Reid had 18 points overall, Carly Andersen posted eight, Suri Johnson had seven, while Renae Tessem had five, Brooke Behrbaum had four and Julia Blumenstein had three. Ari Moscatel, Jamie Mounger and Rachel Tessem each had two points.

The Kangs will take on Mount Si on Friday, Feb. 3 at home at 5:45 p.m., while the Mercer Island girls will host Bellevue on Friday at 6:30 p.m.

The KingCo tournament begins on Monday, Feb. 6 with the top six teams playing in the tournament. As of Thursday, Feb. 2 the Kangs were in second place overall with an 11-2 league record and 14-5 overall. Juanita holds the No. 1 spot at 11-2 in league and 16-3 overall.
