Lake Washington starts softball season with a bang, then fizzle against Kentlake

The Lake Washington High School softball team began the season with a 13-1 drubbing of Bishop Blanchet Tuesday.

The Kangs were relentless against Blanchet, scoring four in the first, four in the second, two in the third and three in the fourth before the game was called due to the mercy rule. Sara Aasness went 1-for-3 with three RBI, while Kang teammate Kealy McMullen was 2-for-3 with two RBI and a home run.

On defense, Lake Washington didn’t need much more than Aasness, who pitched a complete game six hitter, giving up just the one first-inning run, while striking out 11.

On Wednesday, the Kangs lost to Kentlake 12-6. Lake Washington pounded the ball for 15 hits, three each for Elsa Mayer, McMullen and Audrey Sundene. But a barrage of four doubles and two costly errors ultimately did in Lake Washington.

The Kangs will play at Juanita High School Monday against the Rebels at 4:30 p.m.
