Lake Washington boys get past Bothell in first round

The Lake Washington boys basketball team’s dream season continued Tuesday as they defeated Bothell 57-53 at home during the first round of the 4A KingCo tournament. The game was a struggle of wills, as neither team was willing to relinquish much of lead during the first half. Bothell pulled out to a slim 42-41 lead after three quarters of play. But as has become a trade mark of the Kangs’ season. Lake Washington surged on offense during the final quarter with 16 points to claim the victory. While the Cats were led by Dominic Ballard, who led all scorers with 20 points, the Kangs were more balanced with Darien Nelson-Henry (14 points), Ryan Guisness (11), Matt Staudacher (9) and Sean Frankenfield (8) contributing substantially.

The win gives the Kangs a trip to the 4A KingCo semi-finals at Juanita High School Friday at 6:30 p.m. Woodinville will play Skyline during the other semi-final game, scheduled for 8:15 p.m. Friday, also at Juanita High School.
