The Juanita High School basketball team’s season came to an end Tuesday on Mercer Island, as they lost during the first round of the 3A KingCo boys basketball playoffs 50-33 to the Islanders.

Not much went right for the Rebels as their leading biggest offensive threat Ryon Cunnigan, who had scored 28 points in two games this season, was held to just 15 points. The game was a battle of defenses but Juanita came up short during the first three quarters, scoring in single digits and falling behind 38-22 after 24 minutes of play.

Mercer Island had a balanced attack that was tough for the Rebels to defend against, as 10 players scored from the floor.

The loss means that Juanita finishes the season with a 6-15 overall record, including an in-league regular season record of 2-10. The Rebels also finished the regular season with one of the top scorers in the league, as Cunnigan averaged nearly 19 points a game, second to Aaron Bright of Bellevue.
