Lake Washington alone in first place

The Lake Washington boys basketball team broke the three-way tie for first place in the Crown Division Friday, beating Woodinville 67-53.

The Kangs took control of the close contest with their offense during the third quarter, exploding for 25 points as a team. Woodinville never recovered, falling further behind Lake Washington during the fourth quarter.

The Kangs were led by their 6-foot-10 sophomore Darien Nelson-Henry with 18 points. Matt Staudacher (15), Ryan Guisness (12) and Alex Houghton (11) helped keep Woodinville’s defense off balance.

The win leaves the Kangs with a 7-3 record and a one-game lead over Woodinville and Inglemoor, which lost to Ballard 73-69. Lake Washington will host Garfield Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
