Kirkland All Stars lose to Northern Calif. head into semi-finals

The Kirkland Majors All Stars lost their first game in three years during the Little League Western Regional tournament on Wednesday afternoon. The team, playing against undefeated Northern California lost 7-3 in the last game of pool play.

Despite a loss, the team moves into the next round of the tournament, the elimination round, facing Southern Calif. in the semifinals. The game will be held tonight at 7 p.m. in California. The winner will go on to play the winner of the Northern California, Alaska semifinal. The championship game will be held Friday at 6 p.m. The winner of the tournament advances to the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Ore. beginning Aug. 11.

Against Northern Calif. on Wednesday the girls from Kirkland started off with a run in the first inning and another in the third inning. The third and final run for the team came in the fourth when Tatum Kawabata headed home off an RBI single from Alex Hanger.

Lisa Nelson pitched for two scoreless innings, striking out two batters and allowing one hit. Tori Bivens pitched for two innings giving up three runs and striking out one. Clare Sovacool pitched the fifth inning, giving up four runs and the game was finished by Kawabata who struck out one.
