Juanita volleyball earns big win over Mercer Island | Prep volleyball

The Juanita volleyball team won a hard-fought victory over Mercer Island Wednesday, Oct. 6, taking hold of second place in KingCo with the 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 24-26, 25-19, 15-8) win.

The Juanita volleyball team won a hard-fought victory over Mercer Island Wednesday, Oct. 6, taking hold of second place in KingCo with the 3-2 (25-23, 23-25, 24-26, 25-19, 15-8) win.

It was an exciting game for both teams, as the Rebels jumped out to take the first game in a comeback. The Islanders had led the way for most of the game until the Rebels challenged, digging their way back into it until the teams were tied at 22. The same situation began game two, but Mercer Island was able to hold on for the win. They did the same in game three, keeping Juanita from scoring a final vital point, for a 1-1 match tie overall. Juanita found their stride in the fourth game, to force a fifth and final game of the match. The Rebels continued with the momentum for the fifth game to take the win.

Jade Finau set up 49 assists during the games and contributed 10 digs. Dana Michels had a season-high 37 kills along with nine digs. Lily Cole had seven kills and Natalie Marrs and Alex Gollersrud both had five kills.

There were also some great serving runs by Candace Cromer with six aces and Alivia Stoddard with four aces. On defense Elizabeth Tran had eight digs.

The Rebels continued their roll with a sweep of Bellevue Monday night 3-0 (25-13, 25-13, 25-13). Both Sarah Kendrick and Alex Gollersrud contributed five kills to the offense, and Dana Michels had 12 kills and seven service aces. Jade Finau set up 24 assists and also had 10 kills of her own. On defense, Canadace Cromer had seven digs and Elizabeth Tran had six.

The Rebels are currently 8-2 this season with an undefeated a home standing. The team sits solidly in second place in the league and faced undefeated Mount Si at home on Wednesday, after Reporter deadline.

Mount Si dominates Lake Washington

The Mount Si volleyball team continued their league domination, beating Lake Washington in three games last week. The Wildcats won 25-22, 25-8, 25-18 to continue their undefeated season.

Next week the Kangs travel to Bellevue on Monday and to Sammamish on Wednesday for two more KingCo conference matches.
