Juanita softball holds strong with playoff victory over LW

Lake Washington roared back from a seven-run deficit, but Juanita held strong and notched an 8-7 softball victory on Wednesday in the 3A KingCo tournament.

The Rebels will play Redmond at 8 p.m. Friday in the championship game at Inglemoor High. LW will take on Bellevue at 6 p.m. at Inglemoor.

Mackenzie Burke earned the win and Anissa Tax snagged the save in a game that saw Juanita take an 8-1 lead with six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. LW answered with six in the top of the seventh before Juanita quelled the rally.

Both teams had nine hits each. Tops for Juanita were Jordan Schroeder with two hits and an RBI; and hits and RBIs from Lexi Blackburn, Kaci Gordon and Burke. For LW, Abigail Mills and Maliena Carelli each homered; Hailey Menssen had two hits and two RBIs; and Haley Brown had an RBI.

In a display of camaraderie, the Juanita and LW girls sat together on the field and played a game during a 45-minute delay while the first-base bag was being replaced during one of the early innings. The girls all know each other well and have played Little League together.

LW beat Juanita by the same score last week in regular-season action.
