The Juanita girls soccer team split their opening week of competition against two non-league teams. Up first was the Rebels game against Inglemoor, which Juanita beat 2-0.

Caitlyn Glenn scored first for the Rebels off an assist from Rachel Richardson in the 57 minute of place. Nine minutes later Kylie Hassel, assisted by Haili Adams scored the final goal of the game in the 66 minute. Rebel goalie Niki Fausset was awarded the shutout.

A few days later the Rebels fell to 4A Bothell in the second non-conference game of the week. Bothell’s lone goal of the game came from Ashley Butcher in the 29 minute. Alexis Thode was awarded the shutout.

Juanita beat Sammamish Tuesday night 4-1.

The Rebels scored early with a goal from Ashland Bernard, assisted by Tori Lee in the 13 minute. The Totems held off any more scoring advances until Karissa Radke broke through off an assist from Haili Adams in the 39 minute. Radke hit her target again shortly after half time for an unassisted goal, while Lee made her own goal during the 75 minute. Sammamish’s Sam Tobin scored the team’s lone goal off Kylie Alison during the 77 minute of the game.

The Rebels are currently 2-1 this season.

Lake Washington soccer falls twice in first week

The Kangs varsity soccer team had trouble in its first week of play. Lake Washington fell to 4A opponents Bothell and Eastlake for an 0-2 start to the season.

Against Bothell on Sept. 4 the Kangaroos lost 4-1.

Shannon Schueren, assisted by Alisyn Cundiss scored first for the Cougars in the 20 minute, followed by Kendra Heyer in the 22 minute. Heyer scored against in the 32 minute, assisted by Alexis Thode. Katherine Lacy finished off the match with a goal in the 68 minute. Lake Washington’s lone goal was scored by Emma Holm, assisted by Cassie Lively in the 60 minute of the game.

Days later the Kangs faced former conference opponent Eastlake, losing 2-1.

Kelsey Haberly scored off an assist from Ann Heine in the 16 minute, followed by a Jaclyn Softli, Haberly goal in the 31 minute. Holm scored for the Kangs off a penalty kick late in the game.

The Kangs bounced back on Tuesday night, beating Mercer Island 2-0 in a conference match.

Senior Jordan Masters scored the first goal of the night when it slipped past Islander goalie Corey Goelz with 7:46 left in the half. Holm scored the second goal of the night off a penalty kick with 6 minutes left in the match.
