Bothell resident’s two goals lift NU past Pacific | College men’s soccer

Bothell resident Kyle Zimmerman scored two goals to help lift Northwest University to a 3-1 non-league victory over Pacific University to post their first win of the season.

Bothell resident Kyle Zimmerman scored two goals to help lift the Northwest University men’s soccer team to a 3-1 non-league victory over Pacific University to post their first win of the season on Friday.

Zimmerman’s first goal came just 1:40 into the game as he put Northwest U into the lead with his unassisted score. His second goal and game winner came in the 19th minute as he took teammate Ryan Gamache’s pass and finished for the score, his third goal of the season. NU would take a 2-0 lead into halftime.

Pacific came out quickly in the second half and five minutes into the period, Kellan McNamara closed the gap to 2-1 with his score. Elan Yogi earning the assist.

Sophomore Chris Iacolucci would get the game clincher for NU at the 60:23 mark with his unassisted goal as NU goalkeeper, Bothell resident Daniel Christenson, would hold the Boxers scoreless earning the shutout. The Eagle defense would team up with Christenson and not allow a Pacific shot in the final 16 minutes of the game.

Northwest U (1-3) outshot Pacific 15-8 and led in corner kicks with a 6-4 edge. Layton Thommasen made five saves in goal for Pacific taking the loss.

Said NU Coach, Gary McIntosh after the game, “It was great for us to find our stride today. The guys came ready to play and early pressure from us created the first goal for Kyle (Zimmerman).  We played as a unit and earned the result. An all-around good effort by the team.”

The Eagles will remain on the road again next week as they travel to McMinnville, Oregon, to play Linfield College on Saturday, Sept. 12.
