The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter Police Blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 800 per week.
Between Feb. 10-16, the Kirkland Police Department reported 367 traffic violations (one DUI), 18 alarm calls, 12 car accidents, 16 noise complaints, 11 thefts, five car prowls, nine domestic violence calls, four acts of fraud, nine calls of a disturbance, three assaults, two cases of abuse, five calls for illegal substances and six calls of harassment. At least 32 people were arrested.
Feb. 16
Domestic: 6:14 p.m., 102nd Place N.E. A 51-year-old man called police to report that his 15-year-old son was arguing with him about the fact that he is too strict. The boy punched a hole in his wall. There was no report or evidence of a physical altercation between the two.
Feb. 14
Theft: 1:30 a.m., 11224 N.E. 124th Street. A 19-year-old man approached the QFC self pay register and the night manager observed an item fall out of his pants but did not stop to pick it up. The man paid for a bag of chips and as he moved toward the door the manager contacted him and asked if he had more items on him that he did not purchase. The man said yes and pulled various items from his jacket and pants. The manager believed that he had more items on him and wanted to prosecute. The search of the suspect revealed more items for a total of $20.91.
Domestic: 2:19 a.m., 10000 block of N.E. 120th Lane. An officer saw a physical altercation in the Esplande Apartments parking lot while on a walk through. A 29-year-old man threw his girlfriend of two years onto the pavement in front of the officer. Neither party wanted to cooperate with police. The man was arrested for domestic violence.
Feb. 13
Domestic: 7 p.m., 12400 block of N.E. 104th Street. A female reported that her boyfriend hit, grabbed and pushed her. The victim had redness and swelling on the right side of her face. The suspect left the scene before police arrived but was contacted and arrested after he drove by outside the residence.
Feb. 12
Domestic: 1:47 a.m., 6100 block of 114th Ave. N.E. A female made numerous attempts to commit suicide and attempted to lock herself in a bathroom while police were en route. The female bit a male’s wrist causing pain and injury while he was attempting to take a safety razor away from her while she was holding it against her neck. The female was arrested for assault and resisting arrest.
Harassment: 2:44 p.m., Bridlewood Circle. A Kirkland man called police to report that a person he knew in college was harassing him. An officer advised the man on how to block text messages and facebook access. The man said he did not feel threatened or fearful.
Feb. 11
Theft: 12:45 p.m., 12221 120th Ave. N.E. A 24-year-old Kirkland woman was arrested for attempting to shoplift $169 of XBOX games and a controller in her purse.
DUI: 12:30 a.m., 12200 N.E. 85th Street. A 22-year-old man was stopped on a traffic violation and exhibited signs of intoxication. The man submitted a blood alcohol content of .099 and was arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended license.
