Transfer Station construction prompts limited access

A King County Solid Waste Division (KCSWD) construction project at the Houghton Transfer Station, 11724 N.E. 60th St., will restrict public access to the station starting on Monday, July 26 through mid-December 2010.

On weekdays, residential customers will be redirected to other solid waste facilities. On Saturdays and Sundays, the station will be open to public access but will be operating at limited capacity. Residential customers are advised to expect delays, use caution and are urged to consider an alternative disposal option.

Alternative disposal options include:

• Factoria Transfer Station: 13800 S.E. 32nd St., Bellevue

• Renton Transfer Station: 3021 N.E. Fourth St., Renton

• Shoreline Transfer Station: 2300 N. 165th St., Shoreline

The construction project will improve safety and help reduce impacts on neighbors and the surrounding community. Major improvements include raising the transfer building roof; the construction of a sound barrier wall; the construction of a pathway on the north side of N.E. 60th St. between 116th Ave. N.E. and 120th Ave. N.E.; and improvements to the wastewater collection system.
