Studio East Training for the Performing Arts welcomes the public to attend a Community Day Open House event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 22 at the new facility, 11730 118th Ave. N.E., Kirkland. A ribbon-cutting ceremony with Kirkland Mayor Joan McBride and city officials will commence at noon. The public is invited to tour the space and enjoy a music performance with the cast of “Seussical, the Musical” at 11 a.m.

The 13,000 square foot leased facility in north Kirkland gives Studio East more space for their children’s theater workshops, classes, camps and productions, and will allow the organization to expand their offerings meet the demand for their well-established theater training program. The new home houses three large studios, a 130 seat theater, a costume room and set shop, and administrative offices.

“Our new home will give the children in our community a welcoming place to learn, develop and present their outstanding creative work,” said Artistic Director Lani Brockman. “After 15 years in a dark, cramped building, we are looking forward to having a home that reflects the joy of children’s theater and quality of the work our students produce.”

To fund the build-outs, Studio East launched a $500,000 capital campaign last November. To date, the organization has raised 80 percent of the funds needed for the project and they are continuing to fundraise for the last $100,000. A current campaign includes sponsoring seats in the new theater.

“We are thrilled to have found a new home in Kirkland, and we are looking forward to welcoming the community to this wonderful facility,” said Nikki Parish, managing director of Studio East. “We are extremely grateful for the financial support we have received from the community, our board of directors and from so many of our patrons as we make this exciting move.”
