Sternoff honored as Sound Cities Association “Member Emeritus”

Former Kirkland City Council member Bob Sternoff was honored as “Member Emeritus” during the November 2013 Sound Cities Association (SCA) Annual Meeting and Dinner.

Former Kirkland City Council member Bob Sternoff was honored as “Member Emeritus” during the November 2013 Sound Cities Association (SCA) Annual Meeting and Dinner. Member Emeritus is the highest honor that can be given to an SCA Member.

“Bob provided outstanding leadership and distinguished service to SCA,” said Denis Law, SCA President and Mayor of the City of Renton. “Thanks to his guidance, SCA is today a tremendous advocate for King County cities and terrific partner in creating regional solutions.”

According to Law, this award is given rarely, and only to those who have provided exceptional service to SCA. The Association represents 35 cities in King County, Washington, and provides a regional voice for nearly one million people.

Sternoff was on the Kirkland City Council from 2005 through 2013. During his time with SCA, he served on the SCA Board from 2009-2013, SCA VP 2012-part of 2013; SCA Finance Committee member 2009-2011; SCA Membership Committee Chair 2012-part of 2013; Growth Management Planning Council member 2008-2013, alternate 2006-2007; Regional Transit Committee member 2010-2013; Puget Sound Regional Council Executive Board alternate 2010-2011; Puget Sound Regional Council Growth Management Policy Board member 2010-2013; and, Economic Development Council of Seattle and King County member from 2008-2013.

SCA “Member Emeritus” is conferred by the Board of Directors on individuals meeting the following criteria: The individual must be retiring from his/her elected position with an SCA member city; The individual must have provided distinguished service on behalf of suburban cities in King County; The individual must have served as an elected official of a member city for a minimum of 8 years; and The individual must have actively participated in SCA as evidenced by service on the SCA Board or an SCA committee or task force for a minimum of two years.

SCA, formerly the Suburban Cities Association, was founded in the 1970s to help cities in King County act locally and partner regionally to create vital, livable communities through advocacy, education, leadership, mutual support and networking.
