Congresswoman Suzan DelBene, along with United Way CEO John Fine and his wife Paula celebrated the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday by volunteering at multiple events in the district including at Friends of Youth in Kirkland.

In 1994, Congress designated the MLK holiday as a National Day of Service so that it would be “a day on, not a day off.”

In honor of Dr. King’s legacy of service, DelBene will join Friends of Youth in doing landscaping work for their facility in Kirkland. Friends of Youth helps more than 5,500 young people each year in the Puget Sound region by providing temporary shelter and counseling.
