A power outage in the Juanita neighborhood caused Juanita Drive Northeast to be closed to traffic in both directions for several hours on Saturday morning.

The outage was due to a tree that fell onto an overhead power line in the 8600 block of Juanita Drive, near Juanita Beach Park and where several scenic homes are, according to Abigail Elliott, spokeswoman for Puget Sound Energy. The Kirkland Police and Fire Department vehicles were there at the scene. Puget Sound Energy crews later cleared the tree. No one was hurt.

The outage happened at about 11:35 a.m., according to Elliott. She said that 1,800 people were without electricity before the power was restored at 1 p.m. the same day.

Orange cones were set up with a “road closed” sign at 93rd Ave. N.E. and Juanita Dr. N.E., according to Terri Fletcher, of Kirkland, causing drivers to turn around and take another route. Residents in the area reported major traffic backups.
