Between Wednesday, Jan. 7 and Tuesday, Jan. 13, the Kirkland Police Department reported 366 traffic violations (three DUIs), 28 thefts, 24 alarm calls, 21 car accidents, 11 assaults (five domestic violence), nine unwanted/trespassing events and eight vehicle prowls. At least 35 people were arrested.

Jan. 7

Vehicle theft: 7:52 a.m., 12600 block of N.E. 130th Way. A resident reported her green 1997 Saturn was stolen from a residential parking area overnight.

Jan. 8

Marijuana possession: 3:27 a.m., 12400 block of N.E. 85th St. A 2005 Chrysler Sebring stopped for an equipment violation yielded the arrest of two Bellevue men, admitting possession of marijuana. The driver was also found to be operating the vehicle with a suspended license.

Jan. 9

Suspended license: 12 p.m., 11600 block of N.E. 70th Place. Police stopped a 2004 Ford F-250 truck on a traffic violation and later arrested and jailed the 44-year-old driver, once an investigation revealed his license was suspended. His vehicle also lacked a required interlocking ignition device, commonly used on vehicles driven by past DUI offenders.

Shoplifting liquor: 8:06 p.m., 211 Parkplace Center. A 29-year-old resident was stopped for attempting to allegedly steal a case of Budweiser and a bottle of wine from a business. He was arrested, booked and released after signing a no-trespass order for one year.

Aggravated assault: 8:12 p.m., 348 Kirkland Avenue. An 18-year-old male resident was arrested after he allegedly attacked another 18-year-old male. The victim suffered injuries to his face and head and was taken to Evergreen Medical Center. His 16 year-old male companion was taken to juvenile detention.

Jan. 10

Frequent trespassing: 8:25 p.m. 13000 block of N.E. 70th Place. A homeless man was arrested at Tech City Bowling alley after employees there recognized him from a trespassing advisory. The 45-year-old resident was booked into the county jail.

Jan. 12

Vandalism: 9:31 a.m., 700 block of Kirkland Circle. A 23-year-old man allegedly broke his girlfriend’s cell phone during a loud argument. A neighbo heard yelling and called police.

Mad dog: 11:45 a.m., 400 block of 10th Ave. West. An off-leash black Labrador dog allegedly approached a resident in an aggressive manner as he passed by. The same dog reportedly bit the victim’s child two years ago. Police referred the case to Animal Control.

Check fraud: 12:53 p.m., 11400 block of 87th Street. A Seattle management company contacted the authorities after a Kirkland resident reportedly wrote a bad check to cover rent payments for a Bothell resident.

Questionable actions: 1:15 p.m., Juanita High School. School administrators suspected a student with bloodshot eyes and slurred speech was under the influence and should be tested for drugs. A blood test showed negative results and the student was released.

Jan. 13

Illegal Campsite: 11:30 a.m., 11700 block of 120th Ave. N.E. City public works employees located an illegal campsite near I-405 and the BNSF rail corridor. The site was cleaned up and the belongings were stored for safekeeping.
