State Route 520’s westbound on-ramp at 84th Ave. NE near Bellevue will intermittently close to overnight traffic from 9 p.m. on March 4 to 5 a.m. March 5 so that workers can complete several construction projects at that location.

One of the on-ramp’s two lanes will remain open during the day and early evening, but up to four overnight closures of both ramp lanes are needed to finish construction at the site, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation.

During the closures, motorists will need to use the Bellevue Way or 108th Ave. NE on-ramps, about two miles to the east, to access SR 520’s westbound lanes. Detour signs will direct traffic to these on-ramps.

During the overnight closures, crews will build the foundation for a new sign bridge that will span the upgraded highway. Crews also will install barriers and replace ramp pavement that recently was removed to enable the repair of a damaged stormwater pipe beneath the on-ramp. Once the upcoming work is finished, the on-ramp’s general-purpose lane and transit/HOV lane both will be open.

Residents near the work area may hear construction activity during the overnight closures. The contractor will work to minimize noise as much as possible.

The Eastside segment of WSDOT’s SR 520 Bridge Replacement and HOV Program involves widening the highway to six lanes between Medina and I-405, rebuilding interchanges, constructing highway lids and in-median bus stops, and installing fish-friendly culverts. The completed Eastside corridor is expected to open to traffic in late summer 2014.
