The 1st District Democrats will hold their monthly meeting on April 13 at the International Union of Operating Engineers Hall located at 18701 120th Avenue NE in Bothell. All three legislators from the 1st District represent the north Kirkland area and are Democrats, including Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, Rep. Derek Stanford and Rep. Luis Moscoso.

A dinner social will be held between 6–7 p.m. The official meeting begins at 7 p.m. The meeting is open to the public.

The beginning of every monthly meeting is dedicated to hearing from elected officials. Officials in attendance this month include; Snohomish County Councilwoman Stephanie Wright, Snohomish County Councilman Terry Ryan, Fire Commissioner Guy Palumbo. There will also be several potential candidates for election to the Bothell City Council.

Monthly meetings also feature a guest speaker who will educate guests on a current policy issue. This month, the speaker is Todd Myers from www.carbonwa.org.

Todd is an environmental expert and regular guest on TVW, NPR, CNN and the BBC. He will be presenting the details of the CarbonWA initiative to the legislature which is scheduled for early 2016. The initiative will create the first ever carbon tax in Washington and is modeled after the highly successful carbon tax in British Columbia.
