LWSD teen business owners show confidence, business acumen

Tomorrow’s business leaders are already CEOs today if the contestants in the Teen CEO competition are any indication. Eight high school students from around Lake Washington School District made their pitches in a “Shark Tank” style competition for a total of $5,000 in prize money to invest in their businesses. Complete with PowerPoints and polished presentations, these students shared the vision for their businesses.

Elizabeth Kaye Rice of Juanita High School won the third prize of $1,000 for her custom bra and accessory business, Electric DreaMers.

Each student had 10 minutes to present their business and explain their product and market. Students reviewed financials and how they would use the prize money to expand the business if they won. They fielded questions from the five local business leaders who judged the competition.

Teen CEO is sponsored by the Lake Washington School District Career and Technical Education Department, the Kirkland Kiwanis Foundation and the Kirkland Rotary Club. Passport Unlimited is also a major sponsor of this event.
