Kirkland Summerfest: A weekend of summer fun in downtown

The annual Kirkland Summerfest will take place today and tomorrow, featuring arts, music, food, entertainment and much more for the entire family.

The annual Kirkland Summerfest will take place today and tomorrow, featuring arts, music, food, entertainment and much more for the entire family. The event is sanctioned by Seafair, sponsored by the Kirkland Downtown Association (KDA), presented by Kirkland’s auto dealers and is expected to host 20,000 attendees. The event raises money for the KDA, but is free to the public.

The events will kickoff at 4 p.m. with the Young Artists Exhibition, live music at Marina Park and the opening of the beer and wine garden, also at Marina Park.

The KidsZone Fun will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday for all ages with activities and rides from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., including Touch-a-Truck. Live music will also take place on the Lake Street stage.

Marina Park will feature the Art in the Park with open studios and art activities for the entire family. The Waterfront Fitness Course, Waterfront Yoga, for kids 4-14 years old and Radio Disney TRYathlon on Saturday. The annual Kirkland Rotary Club Duck Dash will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Marina Park. The Seattle Synchro will hold a performance at 4 p.m.

Summerfest will also include many food vendors, including the normal downtown restaurants and various food trucks.

Arts events for this year’s festival include the Young Artists Exhibit, Kirkland Fish Frolic along the Lake, the Create Your Own Sun Necklace and Origami Crane event, Summerfest Drawing Jam and Juried Artists Booths.

The following are the live music groups scheduled for today in Marina Park: Rear View Mirror – 60’s groove, 4 p.m.; Herding Cats – fun, danceable Rock n Roll, 5 p.m.; Big Dog Revue – R&B Dance and Show Band, 7 p.m.; and Freddy Pink – west coast’s premier rock and soul, 9 p.m. Here is the live music scheduled for Saturday in Marina Park: Marilyn & The G-Strings – Kirkland Ukulele Band, 11 a.m.; Cherry Cherry – Neil Diamond tribute, 12:30 p.m.; Creme Tangerine – Beatles music experience, 2:30 p.m.; Shadrack – country rock, 4:30 p.m.; The Hipsters – modern rock, 6 p.m.; Fabulous Roof Shakers – blues, 7:30 p.m.; and The Penguins – high energy dance and show band.
