Kirkland Police unveil new online system for reporting non-emergency crimes

Certain non-emergency crimes can now be reported to the Kirkland Police department without even picking up the phone.

KPD announced an online reporting system in a news release on Jan. 4. The system allows victims to report crimes like vehicle prowls, vandalism, telephone harassment, littering, lost property and thefts.

Traffic complains, reports of abandoned vehicles and tips about drugs and other suspicious activity can also be reported online.

To report a crime online, the incident cannot be an emergency, and must have occurred within Kirkland city limits and off of I-405. There must also be no known suspects in the crime.

For minor traffic collisions, a report can be filed online with the Washington State Patrol.

After completing KPD’s online form, victims are given a temporary confirmation number. After a few days, KPD will either contact the victim or send a final case number.

Citizens have the option to have an officer respond to the call, and can still report crimes over the phone

In-progress crimes should be reported to 911.

The online system can be accessed at www.kirklandwa.gov/onlinereporting.
