Police detectives are investigating a suspicious death in the Juanita neighborhood of Kirkland.

Kirkland police officers responded to a call at 3:17 p.m. on Jan. 6 after a resident at an apartment in the 9800 block of NE 130th reported finding a deceased 28-year-old woman in one of the bedrooms.

“The cause of death was asphyxiation by manual strangulation,” said Kirkland Police Department Lt. Mike Murray.

Detectives later interviewed a second person at the Kirkland Police Station in connection with the death.

“[Detectives] are confident this was not a random assault,” said Murray. “The suspect knew the victim.”

Murray also said that the victim did live at the apartment where she was found.

“Detectives were called to the scene and executed a search warrant on the residence to investigate the circumstances surrounding the women’s death,” said Murray.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office also responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The investigation is being pursued as a potential homicide and being conducted by Kirkland Police Department Detectives and Washington State Patrol Crime Lab Personnel.
