The blotter feature is both a description of a small selection of police incidents and a statistical round-up of all calls to the Kirkland Police Department that are dispatched to on-duty police officers. The Kirkland Reporter Police Blotter is not intended to be representative of all police calls originating in Kirkland, which average about 800 per week.
Between July 29 through Aug. 4, the Kirkland Police Department reported 356 traffic violations (six DUIs), 19 traffic accidents, 34 noise complaints, nine thefts, seven domestic violence calls, 12 alarms, six motor vehicle prowls, five burglaries, 10 disturbances, six cases of fraud, four harassment calls, seven malicious mischief cases, three civil issues, two assaults, four car thefts and seven animal control calls. At least 31 people were arrested.
Aug. 4
DUI: 10:29 p.m., 9700 N.E. 132nd Street. An officer noticed a car pass another vehicle on the left turn lane and clocked the car at 53 mph in a 35 mph zone. When the officer turned on its lights to follow the car it accelerated at a high rate of speed. The vehicle proceeded through an intersection and bottomed out. The officer lost the car but picked it up later in an apartment complex. The 37-year-old Bothell man was located and admitted to driving the vehicle and knowing the police were following him. He was arrested for DUI, reckless driving and failure to stop.
Aug. 3
Weapons: 12:45 p.m., 6000 132nd Ave. N.E. Someone reported seeing a man walking along the side of the road with a gun holstered on his belt. The reporting party was concerned because of increased crime in the area.
Aug. 1
Domestic: 11 a.m., 12200 block of 131st Place N.E. A 63-year-old Kirkland woman reported that her son assaulted her. The woman left the residence immediately after the alleged assault and went to her other son’s home to call police. The 44-year-old man was eventually arrested.
Assault: 1:30 a.m., 11800 block of 98th Ave. N.E. A 27-year-old Kirkland woman was sitting in her friend’s car in front of Bishop’s Ale House when a female exited the Emerald Garden bar while having an argument with her boyfriend. One of the woman’s friends who was also in the car made a rude comment about the boyfriend. The girlfriend walked up to the 27-year-old and hit her in the face and then left with a group of males in a red Jeep.
July 29
Warrant arrest: 12:40 p.m., 11900 block of N.E. 81st Circle. A 29-year-old woman was contacted at Kirkwood Terrace and arrested on her Redmond third degree theft warrant.
Fraud: 5 p.m., 700 Kirkland Circle. An employee of Beakins Moving and Storage out of Montlake Terrace reported receiving a $1,056 check on a closed account from a 41-year-old Kirkland female. The woman later returned to the business and paid the charges in full.
Domestic: 5:12 p.m., 12500 block of N.E. 117th Place. A 20-year-old Kirkland man knocked on a neighbor’s door asking for help after his girlfriend assaulted him by punching, scratching, slapping, kicking ad biting him. The victim was able to get the suspect out of his house. The girlfriend then tried to get back in through an open window, which the victim pushed the suspect out so the woman broke the window with her hands. The woman was arrested for fourth degree assault, malicious mischief and domestic violence.
Theft: 4 p.m., 13000 block of 105th Place N.E. A Kirkland man saw a thin white male standing six-feet, with brown hair holding a piece of mail from his mailbox. The victim was unsuccessful in stopping the man and followed him north into King County in his truck. The suspect dropped the mail and jumped over a fence. The victim believes the suspect ran back toward Juanita High School. Mail was returned to residents living at the corresponding addresses. The victim has never seen the suspect before in the neighborhood.
