Kirkland City Council seeks citizens for Annexation Ballot Statement Committees

The Kirkland City Council is seeking interested individuals to formulate statements about the City’s potential annexation of the Finn Hill, Kingsgate and North Juanita Annexation Area. The individuals will form two committees, one for the annexation and the other against the ballot measure, with the committees’ arguments limited to 200 words. The statements will appear in the voters’ pamphlet for the November 3 General Election ballot measure.

The statements will ask voters of Kirkland’s Potential Annexation Area whether they want to approve the annexation.

Arguments will be submitted to King County Elections no later than 4:30 p.m., August 19, 2009.

Applications will be considered by the City Council at the meeting on July 7. The City Council will consider applicants’ residency, location of employment, local business ownership and voter registration. Applicants are required to submit a brief purpose statement that addresses his/her interest in serving on a committee.

Interested persons must complete a statement of interest that is available from City Clerk Kathi Anderson by calling 425-587-3197 or downloading it from the City’s website at www.ci.kirkland.wa.us.

Applications may be submitted in person or mailed to Kirkland City Hall, 123 5th Avenue, Kirkland, Washington, 98033, ATTN: City Clerk, emailed to kanderson@ci.kirkland.wa.us or faxed to 425-587-3198 no later than 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2009.
