A Kirkland Girl Scout troop chose to donate $250 from cookie sales to Heartbeat for Wounded Warriors, a non-profit organization which supports veterans injured in Iraqi and Afghanistan.
The girls, ages 8 and 9, from Brownie Troop 44305 voted Heartbeat as this year’s beneficiary over other causes, such as equine health and kitty rescue.
Janice Buckley, the founder of Heartbeat, accepted the donation and spoke to the troop members about the impact it would have on soldier rehabilitation programs such as equine and scuba therapy and service dog training. Troop 44305 members have also pledged to collect and donate loose change in support of Heartbeat’s efforts.
Troop 44305 members are Georgia Adams, Quincy McGee, Macy McGowan, Zara Blackford, Bailey Dare, Sydney Millerick, Taylor Dunniway, Corinne Hurst, Aubrey DeHoop, Isabel Burnette, Chloe Hansen and Anika Saunders. Heidi Millerick and Stephanie Dunniway are troop leaders.
