Kirkland-based Y-WE secures high-profile local leaders for career day

Kirkland-based Young Women Empowered (Y-WE) hosts its fourth annual Career Day featuring keynote speeches by Dr. Gloria Burgess, award-winning author, poet and speaker and Cass Tang, PMP, President of All Project Solutions and Director of the Project Management Office at Tacoma Public Schools.

Kirkland-based Young Women Empowered (Y-WE) hosts its fourth annual Career Day featuring keynote speeches by Dr. Gloria Burgess, award-winning author, poet and speaker and Cass Tang, PMP, President of All Project Solutions and Director of the Project Management Office at Tacoma Public Schools. The much-anticipated event will take place at UW Bothell and Cascadia College from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 25 and will provide high school, college-age and adult women the opportunity to learn more about various professions as they hear from leaders in different fields who share reflections about the challenges, lessons and opportunities of their chosen careers.

Burgess is the CEO and President of Jazz, Inc., her leadership consulting and coaching firm. Twenty years ago, she founded and became Executive Director of The Lift Every Voice Foundation, a non-profit dedicated to leadership development and empowerment for urban youth. Her most recent book Dare to Wear Your Soul on the Outside, teaches how to live a lifestyle of intention and serving others.

Cass Tang is President of All Project Solutions, a consulting firm for federal, state and corporate clients focusing in defense, healthcare, non-profit and education sectors. Cass has served as President of the Puget Sound Project Management Institute, Vice President for the Board on Minorities and Women for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, provides Board training for Communities in Schools of Tacoma and serves as a mentor for young women of color through Women in Science and Engineering.

Burgess and Cass Tang, in addition to more than 20 mentors and leaders, will share their career experiences, answer questions and offer career advice at the event. Professions and industries covered include medicine, arts, education, science, technology, engineering, cybersecurity, finance, media, government, law enforcement, non-profit service, social justice, entrepreneurship, philanthropy and more. There will be speakers from Microsoft, Women’s Funding Alliance, UW Bothell, Washington Alliance for Better Schools, Charles Schwab, El Centro de la Raza, Invite Change, Woodland Park Zoo, among others. The day will include interactive workshops and career development activities, plus the opportunity to connect directly with Y-WE’s partners regarding job, internship and summer opportunities.
