As a grad student of international affairs, Masood got a picture of her birth country that didn’t always match up with her memories. So ten years after having moved away from Pakistan, Masood returned in 2003 to rediscover her homeland in a post-9/11 world. Her adventure in that country-of-contradictions is the subject of “Dizzy in Karachi,” as she profiles the changing culture, history and politics of Pakistan, and provides a fascinating glimpse of the people and places beneath the news headlines.

Masood is a writer, teacher and educator on global affairs. Her creative nonfiction has appeared in Best Travel Writing by Women for 2011 and The Veil: Women Writers on its History, Lore and Politics. Masood is also the author of the award winning travelogue, Zaatar Days, Henna Nights, based on her journey backpacking across the Middle East. Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Masood moved to the United States at the age of 11 and grew up in Bellevue. She is a graduate of Tufts University with a Master of Arts in Law and Diplomacy and has been featured on NPR and PBS.
