Kirkland’s annual Arbor Day Celebration and forest restoration event will take place at Watershed Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 17. Volunteers are invited to support Green Kirkland Partnership stewardship efforts to reconnect with nature, plant native trees, shrubs and ground covers and remove aggressive, invasive plants. Free pizza will be provided for all volunteers during the lunch break courtesy of Otak Inc., an award-winning multidisciplinary design firm.
At 12:30 p.m., join Kirkland Mayor Amy Walen, Ben Thompson from the Washington State Department of Natural Resources and Kirkland Urban Forester Deb Powers in a celebratory Arbor Day tree planting. Following the ceremonial planting, forest restoration efforts will resume until 2 p.m.
Tools, gloves and refreshments will be provided. The Watershed Park restoration site is located at 4500 112th Avenue NE, Kirkland, 98033 (not at the 110th Avenue entrance).
