King County Conservation District election today

The King Conservation District will hold a public election March 19 to fill a position for a three-year term on its five-member Board of Supervisors.

Three candidates for the open seat have been announced, including Preston Drew and David Mauk, both of Carnation, who filed a nomination petition by the March 14 deadline. Mark Sollitto, of Seattle, has announced that he is launching a write-in campaign for the position as well.

To be included on the ballot, the candidates completed the nomination form and gathered at least 25 signatures from registered voters residing within the district.

Polling stations will be staffed at 13 King County Library locations, which does not include Kirkland. Eastside King County libraries include the Bellevue, Issaquah and Redmond locations. Poll hours vary. Visit http://www.kingcd.org/new_ele_not_2009.htm for more information.

All King County registered voters residing within the boundary of the District are eligible to vote in this election.

King Conservation District board positions are 3-year, unpaid terms. Board members are responsible for over-seeing District operations, staff, financial administration, and for guiding the direction of District programs and policies. The King Conservation District total annual revenue is approximately $6.3 million dollars, of which with approximately $2.5 million of this is used to fund District operations and a staff of 17.5 FTEs. Regular board meetings are held the second and fourth Monday of every month from 6 p.m. to approximately 9 p.m.
