ICS music students earn place first

Six students from the International Community School’s Music Ensemble and Choir placed first in their categories at this year’s Northlake Region WMEA High School Solo and Ensemble Contest held in February. These superior music students will move on to the Washington State Finals.

The Northlake festival was the largest in the state this year with over 1,200 participants from schools in both the Northshore and Lake Washington School District. ICS was well-represented by many fine student musicians and is proud to announce this year’s first place winners: Nalini Krishnan, soprano; Irene Chen, piano; Bill Zorn, clarinet; Bryan Djunaedi, Dorris Hwang, and Bill Zorn, small woodwind ensemble. Michael Chapin is the music director at ICS. Kathy Svajdlenka is the choir director.

All first place winners advance to the state finals, held at Central Washington University in Ellensburg on April 23 (ensembles) and April 24 (solos).
