Norkirk resident Chuck Hinson filed to run for Kirkland City Council on Thursday after friends and family urged him to run. Hinson has been involved in the community for years and many thought he would make a good council member. On Monday he said he planned to withdrawal from the race, citing time constraints.

“I was really flattered that so many people would ask me to run,” said Hinson. “But I plan to rescind my filing. After talking with some council members and I don’t think I could do the job justice right now.”

Seizing the opportunity to run last week, Hinson decided to run for Position No. 2 against incumbent Bob Sternoff and Kingstate challenger Jason Gardiner on Thursday. But Hinson said that after thinking about it over the weekend and taking into account that he works fulltime and has a “robust” family life, that he would not have enough time to devote to the job.

“I am hoping to run again in the future, but this is just not the right time for me,” said Hinson.

The Norkirk resident’s withdrawal means that there will not be a run-off for Position No. 2 and Gardiner and Sternoff will face off in November.
