Haistings to challenge Goodman for 45th District seat

Kevin Haistings announced he will run to represent the 45th District in the state House. Haistings will run as a Republican for House position 1, challenging incumbent Roger Goodman.

Haistings, 48, is a 25-year law enforcement veteran and a sergeant with the Seattle Police Department, currently assigned to Harbor Patrol. He is vice president of Safe Call Now, a newly created non‑profit organization, executive board member of Behind the Badge Foundation (formerly known as the Washington State Law Enforcement Memorial Foundation) and former president of the Seattle Police Guild. His campaign will focus on a sustainable state budget, improving student opportunities, and putting families before felons in public safety.

“There’s a real disconnect right now between Olympia and our community. So many families are struggling, but all the Legislature is focused on is how to raise our taxes. We need new leaders in Olympia who actually believe state government needs to live within its means,” said Haistings.

He added, “The state should be doing everything it can to encourage businesses to add positions and hire new people. Instead, it is raising unemployment insurance rates. Wouldn’t it be refreshing if state policies helped us return to prosperity rather than hamper our recovery?”

Haistings lives with his wife of 26 years and their two sons in the Carnation area. He has been a leader in his community as a Cub Scout leader, PTSA volunteer, Little League umpire and volunteer firefighter. He volunteers with the Ronald McDonald House Holiday Cruise program and co-founded Safe Call Now, the 24 hour call line for public safety workers that connects them with counseling and other services. Haistings is an avid boater and enjoys the recreational opportunities and natural beauty of Washington.
