Goodman widens lead over Haistings to 917 votes

Monday’s vote totals have been released by the King County Elections Office and the 45th and 48th legislative districts and the trend continues to be toward the incumbents.

State Rep. Roger Goodman claimed his first lead against Republican challenger and former Seattle Police Sergeant Kevin Haistings for Pos. 1 from the 45th District on Thursday. The incumbent went from being down by 78 votes on Thursday to now leading by 917 votes. Goodman leads with 50.93-49.00 percent with 47,463 votes counted.

State Sen. Rodney Tom claimed the lead over his Republican challenger Gregg Bennett Wednesday after noon in the 48th District race. Tom narrowly widened his lead Monday to 51.94-47.95 percent.

In the 45th District, Democrat incumbent Rep. Larry Springer is 15 percent ahead of his Republican challenger, realtor Mark Isaacs for Pos. 2, who has conceded. Springer has a 57.60-42.32 percent lead.

“One of the outcomes to this race is that we will have less of a majority,” said Springer. “I think the message was sent that people want us to see solutions and for us to work together. I hope we heed that call.”

But one of the biggest surprises for Springer, who said he has won most of his races by 20 percent, was Isaacs’ response to the loss.

“He is the only opponent in four runs for the legislature to call and offer congratulations,” said Springer. “It was very gracious and he is a good guy.”

The biggest lead for a challenger has Republican Andy Hill beating incumbent Democrat State Sen. Eric Oemig from the 45th District.

“It looks very promising,” said Hill. “I knocked on 12,000 doors and it was pretty clear people wanted to get the budget back on track and make education the No. 1 priority and that’s what I plan to do. That’s why I ran, there was a big disconnect between what people wanted and what was going on in Olympia.”

Hill, who narrowly won the primary vote, has a 51.32-48.59 percent lead, which has narrowed since election day.

The 48th District seems to be more defined as State Rep. Deb Eddy (D) has a comfortable 56.35-43.52 percent lead over former Microsoft employee Philip Wilson for Pos. 2.

Democrat incumbent Rep. Ross Hunter holds the lead against former federal Prosecutor and U.S. Attorney Republican challenger Diane Tebelius for Pos. 1. Hunter has 53.15 percent of the vote with Tebelius at 46.74 percent.
