The Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction awarded a total of $90,000 to five school districts in Washington state on Dec. 9, including the Lake Washington School District.

The grants will help districts adapt and implement Open Educational Resources (OER) aligned with state standards. All content created or modified with these grant funds will be available to everyone.

OER are teaching and learning materials (such as textbooks) that exist in the public domain or have been released under an open license. They can be used free of charge and this creates a more efficient way for teachers to get classroom materials.

Other OER grant awardees are:

• Selkirk School District

• Southwest Washington Math Consortium

• Spokane Public Schools

• Sunnyside School District
