Eastsider Doreen Cato to speak at Legacy Leadership Breakfast in Kirkland

Nationally renowned child advocate Doreen Cato, Ed.D, will be the guest speaker at the next Legacy Leadership Breakfast at 8 a.m. Feb. 9 at LIOS Graduate College of Saybrook University, 4010 Lake Washington Blvd. NE, Suite 300, in Kirkland.

Nationally renowned child advocate Doreen Cato, Ed.D, will be the guest speaker at the next Legacy Leadership Breakfast at 8 a.m. Feb. 9 at LIOS Graduate College of Saybrook University, 4010 Lake Washington Blvd. NE, Suite 300, in Kirkland.

Cato’s speech will be based on her newly released book, “Saving the Leader Within: The Impact of Childhood Trauma on Leadership.”

“This is a case study of my siblings’ and my own traumas, plus those of four historical leaders who experienced trauma in their lives,” Cato said about her book. “The four historical leaders are Sojourner Truth, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Eleanor Roosevelt and Wangari Maathati.”

LIOS Graduate College offers Legacy Leadership Breakfasts several times a year for leaders and interested community members to meet and hear dynamic speakers discuss topics of interest.

There is no charge for the breakfast but guests are encouraged to make a donation of $20 or more to the LIOS Scholarship Fund for Multicultural Leaders. LIOS, formerly the Leadership Institute of Seattle, has been educating leaders since 1969.

Cato is the executive director of First Place, a school for homeless children in Seattle. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in art education, a Masters in applied behavioral science with an emphasis on organizational and human systems and a Doctorate in educational leadership.

She has received numerous awards and recognitions for her work with children, community leadership and volunteer activities.
