Dozens of concerned residents held signs such as “58 units, Not 98” and “Potala Respect Our Community” on Friday evening in protest of the controversial Potala Village project.

The protest along 10th Avenue South and Lake Street – the site of the proposed project – was organized by a citizen group called STOP (“Support the Ordinances and Plan”).

Picketers dressed in red and waved signs during peak commute traffic to bring attention to the issue and to “let the Kirkland City Council and Planning Department know that we continue to expect further downsizing of the project and mitigation as proposed in the Environmental Impact Study,” according to a STOP news release.

The site has been the subject of ongoing litigation between developer Lobsang Dargey and the city of Kirkland over zoning issues.
